Bringing Specialised Care Closer to Home: GMTF Continues Needs Assessment in Ahafo Region

Partnering with regional hospitals remains central to the mission of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), ensuring that specialised medical care is accessible to all Ghanaians, no matter where they live.

Beyond improving access, these partnerships help the Fund confront the long-standing concentration of specialist services in urban centres, so patients in rural and underserved regions no longer have to travel long distances in search of life-saving care.

That is why, after visiting Sefwi-Wiawso Government Hospital in the Western North Region, the GMTF team continued its journey to the Goaso Municipal Hospital in the Ahafo Region to advance its needs assessment.

Led by the Fund’s Health Policy Advisor, Dr. Norbert Kipo, the team engaged hospital management and clinicians to gain first-hand insight into the facility’s needs and how it can be strengthened to support the delivery of GMTF’s mandate in the Ahafo Region.

The visit provided a clearer picture of the resources, equipment, and systems the hospital required to support patients battling chronic non-communicable diseases.

And with that, Day One of our needs assessment tour of regional hospitals in the newly created regions comes to an end.

We’ll be back tomorrow with more from the field. Stay with us.
