In a stirring act of patriotism and compassion, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Edem Agana, has pledged his entire three months’ salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to support the construction of the proposed Cardiology Centre for the Volta Region.
The bold gesture is the latest show of support for what is fast becoming a national movement to transform access to specialized healthcare in Ghana.
The proposed Cardiology Centre gained national attention after President John Dramani Mahama, during his recent tour of the Volta Region,
announced plans for its establishment to address the growing burden of heart diseases and end the long, costly journeys patients endure in search of specialist cardiac care.
Hon. Agana’s sacrifice follows similar commitments made by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza who also pledged his entire three months salary towards the project.
Announcing his decision, the Ketu North MP said his contribution reflects the immense confidence he has in the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and its leadership under Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, whose relentless efforts continue to inspire hope for thousands of Ghanaians living with life-threatening non-communicable diseases.
“This is more than a donation; it is an
investment in lives. Every Ghanaian deserves access to quality specialist healthcare regardless of where they live,” he emphasized.
Hon. Agana challenged his fellow Members of Parliament, corporate Ghana, development partners and individuals to rally behind the initiative, stressing that the Cardiology Centre is not just a project for the Volta Region, but a national legacy that will save countless lives for generations.
The growing wave of commitments signals overwhelming confidence in the Ghana Medical Trust Fund’s mission of expanding access to specialized healthcare and fulfilling President Mahama’s vision of ensuring that no Ghanaian is denied treatment because of geography or financial hardship.
