The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has received a significant boost following the official presentation of a GH¢6.1 million donation by presidential staffers and political appointees in support of the Fund’s mission to improve access to specialised healthcare for Ghanaians.
The donation, representing contributions from six months of salaries pledged by President John Dramani Mahama and members of his administration, was formally presented at the Jubilee House on Monday, 15 June 2026. The presentation underscored a collective commitment by government leadership to support efforts aimed at addressing the growing burden of chronic and non-communicable diseases in Ghana.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Trust Fund, Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku expressed profound appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a powerful demonstration of leadership, compassion, and shared responsibility.
She noted that beyond its financial value, the contribution sends a strong message of solidarity with patients and families facing the challenges associated with chronic illnesses.
“The significance of this donation goes beyond the amount contributed. It reflects a commitment to ensuring that more Ghanaians can access the specialised care they need and demonstrates the importance of collective action in addressing some of our most pressing healthcare challenges.”
The contribution will support the Trust Fund’s ongoing efforts to strengthen specialised healthcare delivery through patient support, healthcare infrastructure development, specialist training, and investments in medical innovation and research.
The donation also highlights the growing national support behind the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and its vision of building a healthcare system where access to life-saving treatment is not determined by financial circumstances.
Since its establishment, GMTF has continued to mobilise resources and partnerships to improve healthcare outcomes and expand access to specialised medical services across the country. The support from the President and his appointees represents another important milestone in that journey.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund extends its sincere gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, presidential staffers, and political appointees for this generous contribution and their commitment to advancing healthcare for all Ghanaians.
More than a donation, the contribution stands as a gesture of empathy, a demonstration of leadership, and a reaffirmation of the nation’s commitment to improving the lives of patients and families across Ghana.
