Technical Working Visit Confirms Steady Progress on New Cardiothoracic Centre at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital

Kumasi, Ghana; Construction of a new Cardiothoracic Centre at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is progressing steadily, six weeks after the official sod-cutting ceremony marked the start of the project.

The development, which commenced in January, forms part of ongoing national efforts to strengthen Ghana’s specialist healthcare infrastructure and expand access to advanced cardiac and thoracic services.

A recent technical working visit to the site provided stakeholders with an opportunity to assess progress and review key structural and infrastructure plans. The delegation was led by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, who underscored the importance of ensuring that critical decisions are taken early in the construction process.

She was joined on site by Adann Benjamin Diaz, Chief Executive Officer of ADB Ghana Medicals Limited, as well as technical representatives from the hospital and the Ministry of Health.

Discussions during the visit focused on power capacity requirements, utilities integration, and structural planning ; key components expected to determine the long-term functionality and safety of the facility. Officials noted that the foundational phase remains the most complex stage of the project, requiring close coordination among engineers, planners, and health administrators.

Project leaders expressed confidence that once groundwork is completed, the full scale and impact of the Centre will become more evident.

The new Cardiothoracic Centre is expected to significantly boost specialist care delivery at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and contribute to the government’s broader agenda of improving access to advanced medical treatment across the country.
